Sekinchan-- Paddy Field & Fishing Village

Sekinchan is a small town located in the state of Selangor, Malaysia. It is about 102 km of the north of Kuala Lumpur, 28 km from Kuala Selangor. Sekinchan in chinese means "village suitable for plantation". The land and weather are suitable for paddy, fruit trees and oil palm. Besides, it also popular as fishing village which means that here has delicious seafood. Here has no hectic life as city's, no congested traffic, but full of natural landscapes in addition of friendly residents.

Beach & Resort

Don't expect too much on the beach here. There has no clear water or pearl-like sands. However, there was still a good place to fly kites, playing volleyball or place to see sunset.  If you wanna to overnight, there was a resort. The Sekin resort and hotel was located near to the coast. You can enter the resort  for free to view the fish pond and climb up the look up tower which have to pay RM1. The tower was about 7-storey in height. You can borrow the binocular for RM1. Once you reach the top of the tower, you can see the whole coast and sea in front of you while the breeze cool your face.

The spectacular sunset watched from the top of look out tower.
There is a path to let you cycle or stroll with your partner.

Beside the resort was a public beach where crowded with the tourists and local people. There was even people came here for filming. You can fly kites, playing volleyball or strolling with your beloved here. I didn't see anyone go to swim or playing water there. Perhaps the clearness of the sea water has to be improved. But there was still hot temperature in evening, please do bring your sunblock.

There was a lot stalls selling local products such as crispy keropok, fruits, salted fish, snacks, ice-cream, kites. You can even buy the fresh oyster from the stall and gulp down on the spot. You choose the oyster from the bucket and the boss will open for you and pour chili source on it. Unfortunately, I didn't try that and don't ask me how does it taste.

Apart from that, you can see several "lucky red houses" at the beach. What have stunned me was their special swings. The swing was made from the broken plastic chairs and hang with the rope under the red house roof. I thought their creativity should be awarded the recycle noble prize.

Seafood

There was one row of restaurants selling seafood near the coast. But there was one restaurant selling fresh seafood with cheaper price, named Restaurant Pantai Redang. It was away from the central and almost at the end of the street in conjunction near the entrance of Sekin resort. What you must order from this restaurant were Mantis shrimp (虾菇), spicy octopus, steam ray fish and fried tiger shark (炒虎鲨). The mantis shrimp was RM1 per one. If you buy it at outside, it could be sold up to RM2 per one. The funny thing was I don't know how to open its shell. Then the kind local people teach me the way to eat it. First, you have to remove its neck by your teeth and then open the shell from  the side slit at the bottom. Then separate the shell from the side and you can eat the flesh inside. About the drink, "sa li" fruit juice is suitable for the hot temperature. There was few fruit trees besides the restaurant and you can order the fruit juice. I don't know what is that fruit but local people called it "sa li" juice. It is bit sourish and sweet, definitely promotes your gastric juice to gush out!

Spicy Octopus
Guess how much for this meal if we have 10 people and order one more brinjal dish. RM150? RM200? nope...It was RM113!! Can't believe it was so cheap!

Fish Head

Early morning, we stepped in this Restaurant Heong Kee (香记肉骨茶). The name in chinese mean Bak Gu Teh which was a chinese cuisine but I didn't see anyone order this dish. Most of the customers came here for their famous fish head. Try to imagine, the local people like to have the fish head and rice as their breakfast! Such a luxury breakfast. " Breakfast like a king," well said!

You can choose the size of the fish head and the bigger size was really bigger than your face!! The flesh was soft and sweet, really will melt in your mouth! From the way they ate the fish head, you could tell how master they were in eating the fish head. The local people even the children know where was the flesh, which part of the fish head had abundant of precious flesh and finished the fish head in a clear, complete fish bone.

Culture Street

At night, you can visit the culture street. Recently, the Chinese new year is coming, there is a lot of activity carried out. There is a stage which allow local people to perform such as singing, traditional musical show and so on. Besides, you can buy things at the stalls there. They are selling new year lantern, flowers, cookies, snack, clothes etc. There is not a really big cultural exhibition, more like a night market but you still can enjoy the lively and happening environment there.

God of Wealth

In summary, Sekinchan is a nice place to relax. No need much money and just carry your bag and stay there for few days to enjoy the village serene and natural embrace.
